Page 1 of a pilot chapter I'm making for a Manga Contest being hosted on TinierMe.

Details:::

* Title: Chamemile Millicomeleon's Tea Shop
(yeah long titles ftw)

******* Relative Genres::::
- Shoujo (but anyone can read it. it's not going to be girly enough that men will run in fear and hide under a table.),
- dark fantasy (if you don't know what that is, imagine fantasy just with creepy trees and blood, etc), <- but this won't be seen in the PILOT chapter.......................
- fairy tale,
- comedy (i'll do my best on that part),
- drama,
- romance (but not a whole lot of it since that's not really what the plot is about)*******

* Reading Direction: Left to Right.
Yep. If the koreans can do it so can I XD I have no problem with right to left; but in the u.s. we go in opposite direction so i'll be doing it that way. don't complain....

* Age Rating: The Pilot should be for All Ages. But if the series lifts off, it might have to go towards an OT audience for "violence" and dark themes.

* Setting/Theme: Childish kinda like a Fairy Tale story but set in a "DARK fantasy" setting.
(The characters themselves will not all look like zombies or something but the world they live in will be slightly dark fantasy themed.) <- which is why i might raise the age rating if i end up making a series out of this....

* Plot: A very young girl named Chamemile who loves hunting for herbs and brewing tea decides to open her own tea shop at the age of 10. The manga follows her adventures as she grows up being a tea brewer and shop owner along with all the lives of the people her tea has effected.

---------------------------------------------------------

Yep, so this is going to be my first manga. Again, this is just a pilot to test things out. Also, even though I'm familiar with Manga Studio, I'm still just recently finding out a lot of new things I can and can't do with it.

For example, MS puts everything completely black and white. Back when I was younger, I used to make manga by hand on paper so I messed with shades and stuff and each panel looked somewhat like a BxW portrait.

However, in MS you can't do that. Notice how Chamemile's hair is a lighter shade than the black of her dress in the picture. To get that effect, I had to export it as a psd file and resave it as .jpg. Why? Because even though it looks like this when you are working on it as .cpg? format, once you save it as .jpg it goes completely black and white. like every shade turns 100% black or white.

Now that I look at other manga on the internet, I realized they're all 100% black and white. lol~ The only way to get different tones is to.. well.. use the screentone function.

so yeah, in the manga her hair won't be colored. now i know why unless a character has really dark hair; they never color it in because it'll look completely black......

And Chamemile's hair is similar in color to a lion's mane... >A<

Anyway, the point is I'm still learning "the ways" of manga in MS. But hopefully doing this pilot chapter will give me enough to follow through with an actual series IF it goes well.

So I hope you look forward to it. I have some pages done already, I just need to touch it up a bit. I might be a bit late because I am sick.. again.
And I have exams on top of that......

tysvm for looking and i'll do my best. >~< Expect to see it pretty soon because the rest of it will go up as soon as possible.

:iconpuppywantplz: I won't be working on any other art project until I get this done.

10 years and having her own shop? Quite strange and in real world a child can't work even if he/she really wants to.

At least in a country where child labour is under police's sharp eyes.

Well yes. I am even worse. I have a character that is just 6 years old and he is taking care of the house and his crazy dad! Yes. And because I don't have any little relatives I don't remember how that small people think so the 6 year old acts like a grown up. Yes. Stupid me.

Hmm well it's kinda like how small kids would open a lemonade stand just for fun. It's not an actual business or anything, but they do it on a whim or if they want some allowance. XD It's work but not a real job at the same time.

Though Chamemile will be taking this far more seriously than a lemonade stand; you'll see that because of her age (and her really badly drawn stand lol) people won't take her seriously at all even though to her it's like a real business she wants to start. X)

The pilot was sort of a brush on her first customer being Laen. But for the first chapter, I'd like to consider showing different things like what triggered her to open a shop stand. How or why she has such an interest in tea. How she learned to make tea. And/or how her personal talents relate to tea making in general. :3

I am happy to hear that at least where you live little kids really can open lemonade stands and such because in my country you can't. It even ended up to a magazine when one little child opened an ice cream stand.... I rarely have anything to complain about my country but this is one of them... Law said that the little girl had to stop because she got real money from it and so it was real work. Stupid isn't it?

I too, when I was little would have wanted to do some kind of work but I couldn't. But now it's less than half a year that I am adult and then I can really start something.

Then I can start my manga renting business. I would like to call it manga library but because people would have to pay a little for borrowing them I can't call it a library. At least my mother says so.

Then the reason why people would have to pay for it is that I don't want to depend on our governments mercy to libraries. Because many times when government have to cut money from somewhere they cut from libraries. Also then I would have to obey every little thing they want me to do like throwing away books that are still readable and so on.

I can see that she is taking it quite seriously. And of course she will have harsh times. What story is it when everything happens as the main character wants? But still all the luck for Chamemile.

And sadly when I have been almost adult for a time now I have noticed that many adults think that children aren't even human yet. So they won't be taken seriously no matter they say.

PS: waiting for the story to continue.

ohh well underage working isn't allowed here either. but it's kinda complicated. like, opening a lemonade stand, the child isn't being forced to work. most people would consider it as being just for play.

no one does this anymore i think. but i know for a fact, even after the child labor laws were passed, a few years ago kids used to open these things during summer. both to earn pocket change and to pretend / roleplay with other kids. pretending they have a shop and stuff.

some kids didn't even do it for money. they might've done it for pebbles. candy. cookies. etc.

but for chamemile, she accepts money and anything else. sometimes she won't even ask for money. she's just doing it because it's fun and she wants other people to taste the tea she brews. she wants to be a tea brewer when she gets older and maybe own a shop too. :3

i'll probly remake everything including the pilot when i start the manga. >A<; pilot's more like a test. i know the artist of naruto ended up making everything uber different from his pilot. lol but i still want to keep the concept, character names, and overall appearance. just wanna make a few modifications here and there and make the story more clear. :3

OH! So there too it isn't usual anymore. Okay.

I think that a child should be able to work if he/she does it of their own free will. But maybe it isn't still allowed because many times it's hard to tell wether it's really their own will or are their parent's just threatening them to say so. Understandable but still. I would have liked to do some kind of work.

Oh. A little more just for me information that she doesn't sell her tea just for money.... And sometimes gives it away for free.... Interesting.

Usually I would say that don't do it again what you have once said is finished. And it is good already but since you were working under a dead line last time it would be nice to see how much better you could do without a dead line.
